I’m convinced The New York Times wants me to kill myself

The outside of The New York Times building features the name of the paper in its familiar font.

Tuesday was another all-day sleep day. I was supposed to be arranging a call with HR about what would come next in the likely event that my pending long-term disability claim is denied. I’ve not worked since Nov. 3, two days before the election, and am far from well.

But I saw what’s coming tomorrow, and I was done for the day. I slept for 16 hours. Again.

The New York Times really has some nerve. The paper keeps acting as if it had nothing to do with this. Are you kidding me?

If you’ve kept up with things since my Jan. 13 story, this might not be a surprise. If you’re me and you live this 24/7 as a trans woman, one who works for a NYT-owned company, this never goes away.

And, doing this during Pride is certainly a choice.

Right now I’m convinced The New York Times wants me dead and wishes all trans people just went away. I’m convinced the Times wants me to make it easy for the paper and for The Athletic and kill myself.

A gut punch from any angle

It doesn’t matter what version I see. In dark mode, as in the above screenshot, or …

As a fancy teaser in light mode, or …

Introducing 'The Protocol' Coming June 5: A six-part podcast exploring the origins of medical treatment for transgender young people, and how the care got pulled into a political fight that could end it in the United States. Since 2021, nearly half the states in the U.S. have passed bans on medical treatments for transgender minors. The Trump administration is now targeting the care, and in the coming weeks, the Supreme Court is expected to weigh in. "The Protocol" is the story of youth gender medicine - where it came from, who it was meant to help, and how it got pulled into a political fight that could end it altogether.

… in vanilla light-mode form, it’s like taking the same punch, but in different replay angles.

I’m back down on the floor again

It’s as if the 206 or so days since the election never happened, at least in terms of rest. I’m on the floor again, gut-punched again, reeling, sick to my stomach.

How am I supposed to even think about going back to work for these people?

I was going to have more to say about that, but I’m not seeing straight. Also, my website appears to be having difficulties. Photos are not displaying properly right now, and the same for alt text. I’m hoping they will be by the time you see this.

If not, please be patient. I have no idea what’s wrong, except … everything.

Anyway, for those who still don’t know: The New York Times is not a liberal newspaper.

the thing about the NYT releasing a podcast about trans healthcare is that if it’s not the story of how the alliance defending freedom captured the most influential liberal media outlet in the us and got it to provide a veneer of scientism to a bigoted religious crusade, what is it about?

Couple of things.

1. Really going with “The Protocol.” Did nobody tell them?

2. The New York Times is so afraid of the panic they created that they refer to routine treatments as “the care.” Not “healthcare,” just care.

3. Yes, indeed. How DID gender affirming care get “pulled in” to politics?

President Trump’s new official portrait shows him with a neutral expression moderated by a slight warmth in the eyes — a classic pose some call “smizing,” our critic at large writes.
