What I’ve learned in the last decade or so is that many people who say they love America really don’t. They don’t know what habeas corpus means, and they don’t seem to like it all that much. They don’t really like our defining guidelines and guardrails. They support destroying much of what America actually is.
This, of course, is what they’ve accused liberals and “radical leftists” of for many years.
The truth is, they want America to be whatever they want it to be, but mostly a place where they have power over others. A place where they choose the status quo to maintain. And, mostly, a place where their grift, greed and ghoulishness are not allowed to be questioned.
It reminds me of people who are confrontational about whether strangers are saved or not.
“Are you preparing to meet Jesus?” a sign in Portland says. The photo above (used by permission) is a way for me to illustrate this without stopping traffic.
The thing about many people who are like this is that they never seem to actually like people.
The Venn diagram of these two types of people is not a circle, but it has a lot of overlap.
Many are bullies.
It’s so much easier to tell others how to live their lives than to fix what’s wrong with yours, to fix what’s wrong with you.
My update: No update
Working hard on healing, which is a weird thing. I’d rather not have to work so hard at it. In France, don’t they send you to, say, the south of France for a month for rest, relaxation and recovery? Doctor’s orders? Sign me up.
My clinic and therapist and I have submitted multiple rounds of paperwork and intimate details for my long-term disability claim, which is in review. Speaking of people with power over the lives of others, I will have stories to tell about this process someday.
No real news. I still sleep more than half of every 24 hours.
On the other hand
The Republican-led House of Representatives, in typical “like a thief in the night” cowardice, continued its reverse Robin Hood ways. Trans people took a big hit, but so did you.
Also, brace for more stories like these. This is the United States of America now.
“Packer is widely recognized as an icon of women’s sports. Yet not for the first time, Packer recently found herself being misgendered as a result of gender policing she believes is escalating in line with heightened anti-trans rhetoric.”

Last year my wife had breast cancer and a double mastectomy.
This morning, for the first time ever, she was challenged in the changing rooms at the swimming pool. Her breasts were not what make her a woman – but, breasts or not, she is entitled to dignity and protection from vigilantes.

So many comments on this video are “what did she expect looking like that”
Transphobic people hate women and free expression

There is genuinely a new one of these stories every few hours. Think how many women are being abused by transphobes who don’t feel safe to speak out, or who just silently change their appearance to be more stereotypical in the hope that it won’t happen again?

Meanwhile, a Maine high school freshman is a better human than all of the anti-trans people combined.
This Maine high school track story just got some national TV attention!
@jenpsaki.msnbc.com wrapped up her show with it tonight and read off a big portion of Anelise’s letter (and congratulated Soren for winning too! Which is so great because trans joy is so important!)
