Short version: I missed a step, fell and hurt myself. Ended up in the ER. I was sure I’d broken my right foot, or at least the big toe. X-ray showed I dislocated it. I’ll try to get the X-ray to show you. Two things meant to fit together very clearly were separated.
They popped it back into place, which was as awful as it sounds. All told, I was in excruciating pain for about 15 hours before being given pain meds. It was a bad day.
The next day, I found out my insurance had been terminated 11 days earlier. I don’t know why. I had to buy pain meds out of pocket, which I did. When you are in pain, you don’t ask the cost. But it feels like not many systems are on my side.
Update: Long story short, I have insurance again.
My future is uncertain. My recovery will be slow. Every hour I discover a new pain on my body. The seemingly slow-motion (but actually quite fast) fall and landing on the pavement did a number on me. I’m still blood-stained in about nine places. They didn’t have time to clean me up, they said.
Two more pain pills. I will miss them. And the rest? Including gender-affirming hormones and heart medication? I’ll be on my own. Not sure about upcoming appointments now. My brain isn’t functioning well right now.
That’s all I have energy for. Will tell you more when I can.
Take care.
