So anyway, I’ll probably have some work news for you soon

Five years ago today, I accepted a job offer from The Athletic. The next day, some arguably bigger national news pushed that aside. A few weeks later, I began my work as a staff editor.

About a year after that, The New York Times bought The Athletic.

Some people list their work anniversary as the day they accepted an offer. Others list their first day on the job. I’m big on anniversaries, so I didn’t want to let today pass quietly.

I expect to have a work update for you soon.

One thing on my mind right now is that this decade has been, as I’ve said before, quite the litmus test for whether people care about others. Whether they care about people who aren’t like them, can respect people who aren’t like them, are willing to protect people who aren’t like them. Or even those who are like them.

I wish I could say we’re headed in the right direction.

Sending love. Protect your peace.
